The Medical Republic reports the health department is still updating its implementation guidance for the 1 July 2026 Medicare assignment of benefit changes, with a 12-month transition to 1 July 2027. Administrative rather than a rule change, but it adds to bulk-billing practices' compliance load through the transition year.

The town's only general practice closed on 26 June after a fully bulk-billed model became unviable. For buy-side logic this is the floor of the market: where a viable sale is not achievable, closure is the exit.

The enacted reform deems assets sold immediately before 1 July 2027 and reacquired at market value. Owners need a defensible valuation to fix the new cost base, and the ATO methodology guidance is still missing.

Bupa-Partnered Health is still off the ACCC acquisitions register pending clearance, AvidSys-Spectrum completion is unconfirmed, and Medibank/Amplar sits at about 168 to 170 clinics. Sonic's full-year result is expected around August.
