The business of general practice, daily

Tuesday 7 July 2026

One item today. The NZ comparator has firm dates: Green Cross shareholders vote on the NZD 270m sale of The Doctors to Tend Health at the company's AGM in Auckland on Tuesday 14 July, with completion expected at the end of the month. Closer to home the signal is a deadline: submissions on Partnered Health / Ryan Plaza (MN-15027), the first GP practice notification under the mandatory merger regime, close on Friday; no new GP practice notification has joined the ACCC register since that filing on 3 July.

Green Cross vote on the Tend / The Doctors sale set for 14 July Confirmed

Green Cross Health's notice of meeting, released through the NZX, fixes the 2026 annual shareholders' meeting for Tuesday 14 July at the Ellerslie Event Centre in Auckland, with the resolution to approve the sale of the medical division to Tend Health on the agenda. The board brought the AGM forward to combine it with the sale vote rather than hold two meetings in short succession. The division trades as The Doctors: 65 clinics and more than 400,000 enrolled patients, the largest enrolled GP network in New Zealand. The price is NZD 270m, and completion is expected at the end of July if shareholders approve.

For the Australian comparator file, the speed is the point. The sale was announced on 2 June; if the vote passes, New Zealand's largest enrolled GP network changes hands inside two months while staying NZ-owned through Tend's iwi and local investor backing. Set that against the Australian timetable, where a single 11-GP bolt-on now carries an ACCC filing and a public consultation window before it can complete.

Fresh tracks · what we're watching
  1. Submissions on Partnered Health / Ryan Plaza (MN-15027) close Friday 10 July, with the Phase 1 determination expected in the second half of July. Checked directly on the register today: still under assessment, no movement. The first GP clearance under the mandatory regime sets the template, and the timetable, for every corporate and PHI bolt-on that follows.
  2. Whether the Bupa-Partnered Health parent transaction surfaces on the ACCC public register. Still absent as at 7 July. The only other recent health-adjacent notification is MN-50026, a Stonepeak-led consortium / Estia Health (residential aged care, filed 29 June, questionnaire deadline 7 July).
  3. ATO valuation guidance for the 30 June 2027 CGT cost base reset, still not issued. The gate on any firm pre-2027 planning for practice owners.
  4. The Green Cross vote result on 14 July, then completion at the end of the month.
  5. AvidSys-Spectrum (WA): completion status and whether it appears on the ACCC register. No update since the November announcement.
  6. Gungahlin's fully bulk-billed clinic (Macquarie General Practice), the third of the Federal Government-funded bulk-billing clinics in the ACT, is due to open during July. No confirmed date yet.
