Zoo data updated: 487 groups own 2,429 GP practice sites Confirmed

The Zoo now counts 487 group operators running 2,429 practice sites with 16,637 GPs, about a third of Australian general practice. The ten largest groups hold 35.4% of group sites. Of 3,998 independent practices, 497 have 10 or more GPs. The rise from 340 groups in July reflects small groups found among practices once counted as independent, not new deals. The updated data is on the Zoo dashboard and can be downloaded again as a spreadsheet.

Medibank has investments in Myhealth and Better Medical, which have about 1,500 GPs between them.

NAB survey: 68% bulk billed at their last GP visit Confirmed

NAB surveyed more than 1,000 Australians for its 2026-27 Health Insights Report, published on 14 October: 68% were bulk billed at their last GP visit, up from 58%. PwC on health deals. PwC expects private capital to keep buying occupational health, dental, specialist clinics and mental health, where a buyer can join sites together and add employer, insurer or self-pay income. It expects more pressure on services paid for mainly by government or patients. Medicare-funded general practice sits on that side of PwC's line. GMHBA takes in a staff fund. GMHBA agreed on 1 September to take over the Reserve Bank Health Society, a staff-only fund that covered 4,599 people in 2014-15 and had 2,394 policyholders at 30 June 2025. APRA and the ACCC must approve the transfer, which GMHBA expects in early 2027. GMHBA, 1 September 2026

US hospital mergers. US hospitals announced 16 deals worth US$8.2 billion in revenue in the September quarter. For the third quarter in a row, some deals joined two systems that each earn more than US$1 billion. Of US hospitals, 43% now lose money. Fierce Healthcare, 14 October 2026
