ACCC clears Bupa to buy Partnered Health Confirmed

The ACCC ruled on 9 October that Bupa may buy Partnered Health, the 71-clinic GP, allied health and occupational health group it agreed in June to buy from Quadrant Private Equity for a reported $450 million. The ACCC found the combined share of GP facilities low in every local area where both operate. Bupa's June announcement also made the deal subject to foreign investment approval. A health insurer that already operates GP clinics can now add a national medical centre group without a competition hurdle.

BGH hires bankers to sell ForHealth for about $1 billion Reported

BGH Capital has hired bankers to sell ForHealth, the medical centre network it bought in 2020 for about $500 million, and is seeking about $1 billion, the AFR reported on 8 October. If it sells near that price, owners selling to corporate groups will have a recent price for a large GP network to negotiate against.

Tailem Bend's only GP clinic closes with no new provider Confirmed

Murraylands Medical Centre, the only general practice in Tailem Bend, South Australia, closed on 14 October after the local health network and council found no provider to take it on. The owner had cited GP recruitment and financial sustainability, and the network had earlier cleared the clinic's debt and cut its rent. Owners of a town's only practice can face closure rather than sale when no GP will take it on.

Rural health spending gap reaches $9.23 billion Confirmed

Rural Australians received $1,218 less health funding per person than city residents in 2024-25, $9.23 billion in all, the National Rural Health Alliance reported on 13 October. Medicare spending ran to $1,238 a person in MM1 areas and $728 in the most remote, 40% less, despite rural bulk billing loadings. The figures predate the 2025-26 bulk billing incentive changes. Practices in MM5 to MM7 towns bill against a much smaller Medicare base.

Fresh tracks · what we're watching
  1. One bulk-billing consent per practice. The health department is exploring an enduring assignment of benefit that covers every doctor at a practice rather than one GP, with legal advice to government due before the end of the year. The Medical Republic, 1 October 2026
  2. Medicare health assessments. A health department review published on 8 October recommends one mid-life assessment in place of the separate menopause, chronic disease, diabetes and heart health checks. Two smaller changes from it are already in place; the rest, which would replace several billed items with one, go to the usual Budget process with no date set. The Medical Republic, 12 October 2026
  3. Foreign investment conditions. Treasury's review of the conditions it attaches to foreign investment approvals closed for comment on 15 September, and no outcome or date has been published. Any offshore buyer of an Australian practice must clear those conditions. Treasury, foreign investment review
  4. Pacific Equity Partners and the radiology groups. PEP holds exclusivity over Perth Radiological Clinic and is still pursuing Qscan; neither deal nor its price has been announced, and no date is set. Imaging is the nearest health vertical where deal multiples become public. AFR Street Talk, 9 September 2026
  5. Dental Boutique's sale process. The dental group is reported to be seeking a growth partner at a valuation above $500 million; no partner or price has been announced. The result would put a public price on a clinic roll-up one vertical from general practice. AFR Street Talk, 30 August 2026
